5 Ways to Recover from Dull Skin

By Pacific Derm on May 28 2015

Cellular build-up on the skin’s surface can result in dull-looking skin. Removing surface impurities and build-up is a key part of a successful skin care routine, but it is especially helpful with the change of seasons. Since your skin becomes drier during fall and winter, the arrival of spring is always a good time to schedule an exfoliating treatment.

However, incorporating a deep cleansing routine into your skin care regime is the best year-round plan of attack against dull skin: regular at-home care will remove surface debris, and make the skin appear more hydrated and even-toned.Clarisonic SmartPRO device

1. Brush Away

The Clarisonic cleansing device is a great way to supplement your skin care regimen. It cleans pores and stimulates circulation – much more thorough than can be achieved by manual cleansing with hands. The Clarisonic is gentle enough for daily use and a variety of brush heads are available to accommodate specific skin types (i.e. sensitive, delicate, deep pore, etc.).

There are different models of the Clarisonic available, please contact us for details.

2. Gently PeelRiversol MD-peel

Riversol MD’s Exfoliating Peel has the ability to buff away dead cells from dull skin without irritation. Gentle and safe enough for all skin types, including rosacea-prone skin, the formula is optimized for mature skin. Vitamin C and E and the potent antioxidant, Thujaplicin, help rejuvenate, restore and brighten.

3. Glow with GlyProglypro-system_detail

The GlyPro system by SkinMedica® contains glycolic acid or an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) to continually reveal fresher skin. We recommend GlyPro for most skin types except rosacea or very sensitive skin. The revitalizing system includes:

  1. GlyPro exfoliating cleanser – encourages more skin polishing
  2. GlyPro antioxidant serum – helps protect against free radical damage while providing skin smoothing properties at the same time
  3. GlyPro renewal cream – boosts skin renewal and softness

SkinMedica GlyPro products are available individually, but they work best as a ‘system.’ The AHA may also increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun – sunscreen application is a must while using these products (and sunscreen use is recognized by our dermatologists as an important part of your daily skin care routine).

4. Resurface & ReplenishSkinCeuticals-retexturing-activator

SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator is a serum that exfoliates and replenishes moisture at the same time. It encourages skin cell turnover without using glycolic acid, and normalizes epidermal renewal to create a smoother and softer skin surface.

Formulated with Kombuchka™ (a fermentation of sweet black tea by microorganisms that enhances skin quality, such as smoothness and colour), hyaluronic acid and more; Retexturizing Activator is oil free and suitable for all skin types, including rosacea-prone skin.
