Improve Aging Hands with IPL and Radiesse
The hands can show our age just as much as our face. The skin thins with intrinsic (natural) and extrinsic (environmental) aging, revealing tendons and veins. In addition, sun damage leaves its mark with brown spots and fine lines.
A combination treatment to revitalize aging hands features IPL photorejuvenation to correct pigment and improve skin tone, along with Radiesse dermal filler to restore lost volume. The results are a more youthful and supple appearance for aging hands.
How Hand Rejuvenation Works
The hands are first treated with IPL. [Note: Depending on the condition of the skin, alternate forms of laser therapy such as Medlite or Fraxel laser may be recommended instead of IPL.] Our eLight photorejuveation system combines pulsed light and radiofrequency (RF) for controlled stimulation and regeneration of the skin’s layers. The light is absorbed by excess pigment, which causes it to rise to the surface of the skin and eventually peel off. The RF stimulates collagen production deep within the skin to boost elasticity and firmness.
Three Weeks Later
Working with the top of each hand, Radiesse dermal filler is then injected beneath the skin. The filler provides immediate results by plumping and raising the skin level to reduce the appearance of veins, tendons and joints.
The calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in the Radiesse formulation stimulate the production of collagen in your hands. The CaHA interweaves with your body’s collagen to create smooth, natural-feeling skin.
Although Radiesse may be best known as a facial contouring cosmetic filler that provides instant long-lasting results, since its application in hand rejuvenation, the filler’s appeal has broadened. Using Radiesse, an experienced and skilled injector like Dr. Rivers can produce excellent results for face and hand rejuvenation with very few side effects.
What to Expect
IPL does not require any anesthetic and is completed in about 30 minutes. There may be some redness and/or minor swelling after treatment. Any brown spots will eventually darken and fade from the surface, revealing fresher-looking, smoother skin.
Dermal filler treatment is quick and relatively painless. Side effects may include swelling or tenderness at the injection site. Some bruising may occur but will resolve over a few days. Results will typically last up to two years.
