ThermaFrax is an advanced procedure that combines two gold-standard treatments: Fraxel® laser resurfacing and Thermage® skin tightening. These two compatible treatments create a synergistic anti-aging combination that lifts and rejuvenates the skin with very little downtime. Results include:
- Firmer skin
- Reduces the appearance of pores
- Diminished fine lines
- Smoother skin
- Improved skin tone
More importantly, you’ll look rested and refreshed in just a week after your treatment, and will continue to see improvements in your skin over 6 to 9 months.
How ThermaFrax Works
The Thermage radiofrequency treatment provides heat to the deeper layers in the skin, which then stimulates collagen growth. By encouraging the development of new collagen, firmer and tighter skin is produced over the next several months following treatment.
Fraxel re:store® Dual, a non-ablative laser with two wavelengths, also works below the skin’s surface. It addresses more superficial aging imperfections such as fine lines, rougher texture, brown spots and enlarged pores. Similar to Thermage, the laser’s light energy stimulates the skin’s collagen to help smooth creases, but also has the ability to target specific damaged areas of skin.
Depending on the results you would like to achieve, usually a series of about three to six Fraxel treatments spaced over a several months are recommended for the best results.
Both of these procedures are Health Canada and FDA-approved, and are backed by extensive clinical testing.
What to Expect
We first start with the Thermage procedure, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. When we apply the Thermage device to your skin, you’ll feel it alternate between warm and cold sensations. Thermage’s gentle vibration technology and interspersed cooling provides a more comfortable experience. Treatment is generally well-tolerated with some discomfort, and your skin may appear flushed afterwards.
The Fraxel procedure is then performed over the same area. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia will be applied one hour before the procedure. During treatment, as the laser glides over the skin, you may feel an increased sensation of heat.
After your procedure, you will see some redness and swelling much like a sunburn. Your face will feel very warm and can be soothed by placing ice-packs or cold cloths over top. Your skin may then bronze, peel and/or flake. Makeup may be applied to cover any redness, and ample moisturizer may be applied to combat dryness.
For the entire ThermaFrax combination treatment, you should plan to be in the clinic for almost 4 to 5 hours.
