Not only is your skin your largest organ, it’s a visual guide to your overall health and wellness. This summarizes the comprehensive approach that our skin specialists, Dermatologists Dr. Rivers, Dr. Ulmer and Dr. Kuritzky will take with your skin.
Our three medical dermatologists combine their specialist training and years of experience with access to advanced treatments and technologies to offer the best possible care. Each dermatologist will spend time with you discussing your immediate concerns, examining your skin and then developing a plan with treatment options. Your skin specialist may also offer some longer-term solutions for you to consider, such as a personalized skin care regimen.
What is a Dermatologist?
Dermatology is a specialized area of medicine focused on conditions affecting the skin, nails and hair. Dermatologists must complete an additional five years of intensive training after four years in medical school. During their residency, dermatologists gain experience with all types of diseases of the skin, hair and nails through caring for patients in both hospital and clinic environments. After becoming board-certified, many dermatologists will complete additional fellowships in specific disciplines (Dr. Rivers has completed fellowships in skin cancer).
Referral to a Dermatologist
Our doctors work under the Medical Services Plan (MSP) of BC, all patients requiring medical dermatological care must have a referral from another doctor. Please note that we are booking appointments for non-urgent skin concerns approximately six months out. More urgent concerns – such as skin cancer – will always be accommodated as quickly as possible.
Cosmetic dermatology concerns and treatments do not require a referral to a skin specialist. If you are unsure whether or not you require a referral, please contact our clinic.
