Spider Veins, Rosacea, Birthmarks & More
While laser vein treatment has become a popular treatment of spider veins on the face, not many people know that this same laser can be used on multiple other vascular (involving blood vessels) issues from general facial redness to dark purple birthmarks.
Excel V Vascular Laser
Vascular lasers vary: each produces different wavelengths and colours of light. The challenge for physicians in the past has been finding a vascular laser that could not only treat the broad range of vascular conditions experienced by patients but also adjust to different depths and sizes, such as small superficial blemishes like “broken” capillaries and deep vascular birthmarks.
Our clinic in Vancouver uses the Excel V Laser by Cutera, considered to be one of the most progressive “gold standard” vascular lasers on the market because of its treatment range.
The other advanced feature that sets this laser apart from others on the market is its unique cooling technology. The cooling is applied to the target area before, during and after the laser pulse, enabling higher doses for safe treatments, with less discomfort than other systems.
What Conditions Are Treated?
Using one wavelength (a green light), the Excel V vascular laser can precisely treat visible vessels, “broken” capillaries (which are actually permanently dilated blood vessels on the face), spider veins and skin discolouration. The laser’s second wavelength targets bluish veins and deeper vascular structures.
The Excel V has the ability to treat cosmetic issues such as rosacea, facial redness, leg veins, scarring, facial telangiectasia (spider veins), port wine stains, cherry angiomas and more.
What to Expect
As the pulses of laser energy are delivered through the handpiece you will feel a slight stinging sensation. This vascular laser’s adjustable cooling technology applied throughout the laser treatment minimizes discomfort.
After laser treatment you may see a slight reddening and/or localized swelling of the skin. This should subside within 24 hours. Otherwise, you may return to your regular activities directly afterwards.
Most patients see improvement within two to six weeks after the procedure. Usually only one or two treatment sessions will achieve your desired results, but the final number of laser treatments needed depends on the colour, size and area where the veins are being treated.
