What is Thermage?
Thermage is a non-invasive radiofrequency therapy that applies heat to the deeper skin layers in order to stimulate collagen growth for a more youthful and refreshed look.
How does Thermage® work?
We use Thermage Comfort Pulse Technology (CPT), which is more advanced, faster, and more comfortable than the previous Radiofrequency (RF) model. It includes a vibrating hand piece that makes the treatment as pleasant as possible, usually taking away the need for any pain meds.
Uniform RF heat delivery boosts collagen growth, giving you fresh, firm skin that fights the signs of aging. CPT technology is delicate enough to use on hooded or crepey eyelids, where it lifts and “opens up” the eye area. This treatment is also popular after pregnancy or weight loss for anyone looking to firm up sagging body skin.
You’ll be at the clinic for about 2-3 hours. The tip of the treatment device alternates between deeply-penetrating heat for collagen stimulation and a cooling sensation that keeps you comfortable. There’s no anaesthetic required.
Afterwards, you might notice some redness or swelling, but this will go away within a day or two. You’ll see subtle results immediately, and it gets better from there. Your skin will continue to look firmer and smoother over the next 6 months as healthy new collagen grows.
Since Thermage® doesn’t use lasers, it’s great for all skin types and tones. There’s no need to avoid the sun before and after treatment, so feel free to come in during the summer.
For the best results, we recommend a 6-month follow-up treatment of special “vector” zones on the face, which targets any areas that need extra attention. How long the results last will vary depending on your skin condition and natural aging process. While this treatment isn’t as dramatic as surgery, you can look forward to firmer skin that reveals a more youthful appearance.
What is Thermage Used For?
According to our very own Dr. Ulmer, Thermage skin tightening is used for:
- The face (improves sagging, wrinkles, lines),
- Neck (tightens the neck and defines the jawline),
- Eyelids (reduces laxity, lifts the brows and provides a more open-eye appearance by reducing saggy upper eyelids).
What To Expect Before and After Thermage Treatment?
Before your treatment, here are some tips to get ready:
- Plan to be at the clinic for approximately 2 –3 hours.
- Drink plenty of water before, on the day of, and after the procedure for better results.
- If you’re taking any medications, discuss these during your consultation.
Right after your treatment and for a few days after, you may notice redness and puffiness in the treated area. But no worries, these clear up in no time. Proper skincare will help maintain results, including using a topical Vitamin C antioxidant.
Also, make sure to follow the specific post-treatment instructions provided during your consultation, as these can be tailored to your medical history and age.
Most people come in annually or bi-annually for maintenance, but length of time will vary based on individual factors, such as your skin goals.
