Wrinkle Treatments

Why Wrinkles?

Wrinkles and fine lines form as the result of many different factors, such as the aging process, environmental exposure (namely sun damage) and lifestyle choices. After years of frequent contraction, both ‘dynamic’ and ‘static’ wrinkles can linger on your face creating unwanted expression lines even when your facial muscles are at rest.

Our downtown Vancouver clinic offers our patients a number of non-surgical cosmetic treatments for wrinkles. Determining which solution is the right one for you will depend on the type, location and extent of your wrinkles.

Botulinum toxin in its cosmetic form has revolutionized the way doctors are able to improve the look of facial wrinkles, creating a more relaxed, natural and youthful face. Its effectiveness and excellent safety track record has made injections of botulinum toxin one of the most popular anti-aging treatments in the world.

What is it?

Botulinum Toxin type A is a naturally-occurring purified protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Sold as a branded prescription medicine by producers such as Allergan Inc., Merz and Valeant, the substance is injected with a very fine needle into select muscles, blocking the nerve signals and resulting in their temporary relaxation.

What can it do?

Botulinum toxin is mainly used to reduce and smooth dynamic wrinkles:

  • Frown lines – vertical glabellar lines between brows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Neck creases or bands

If skillfully injected by a qualified physician, botulinum toxin may also:

  • Help lift the brow and open the eye
  • Lessen gummy smiles
  • Minimize lip puckering
  • Reduce the width of the lower face

  • Simple, quick treatment – approx. 10 minutes
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Noticeable results within days
  • No recovery time needed – immediately return to your activities

Results last upwards of three to five months, but individual results may vary. Contact us to learn more about botulinum toxin for treatment of wrinkles.

Dermal fillers are often used in conjunction with botulinum toxin as an advanced wrinkles treatment. The two complementary treatments produce an amplified anti-aging effect together (see SOFT LIFT™ treatments [link to page]).

What is it?

Dermal filler is a gel-like substance that is injected into the skin to fill deep wrinkles and restore volume. Most of the fillers that we use at Pacific Dermaesthetics consist of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in your body. For a list of the filler brands that we use and additional information, please see the Dermal Filler page.

What can it do?

Dermal fillers can smooth the lines, folds and creases of ‘static’ wrinkles:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Perioral lines (‘smoker’s’ lines or lips)
  • ‘Marionette’ lines
  • Smile lines

Dermal fillers are also successfully used as an anti-aging treatment for volume loss and sagging, deflated skin, restoring size and shape of facial features such as the lips, cheeks and jaw.

  • Simple, quick treatment
  • Minimal discomfort – topical anesthetic may be used if needed
  • Immediate and long-lasting results

Fractional laser therapy is a safe form of skin resurfacing that provides superior results compared to more superficial procedures such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

What is it?

Pacific Dermaesthetics utilizes the gold standard in fractional laser therapy, the Fraxel® laser, including three different laser wavelengths. Its advanced technology treats only specific areas or ‘fractions’ of the damaged skin leaving the surrounding area intact. These fractions allow the skin to recover more rapidly with new, fresh and smoother skin.

What can it do?

Fraxel laser is a multi-tasking anti-aging treatment. It corrects:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Freckles, age and sun spots
  • Uneven skin tone and texture

Beyond being a successful wrinkle treatment, fractional laser therapy is also used to treat melasma, actinic keratosis and scarring (acne, traumatic and surgical).

  • Corrects multiple skin issues besides wrinkles
  • Reverses several signs of aging at once
  • Limited downtime
  • Progressive results – appear subtly over a period of weeks to months
