Do Your Hands Tell Your Age?

By Pacific Derm on April 29 2014

radiesse-hand-rejuvenationFrequently, the focus of anti-aging is the face, but our hands can give away our age just as easily. Telltale signs include thin crepey skin, visible veins, protruding tendons and a sprinkling of ‘liver’ spots.

Our clinic is seeing an increased interest in treating age spots on patients’ hands, either with IPL or other types of laser therapy such as the Medlite or Fraxel laser. However, as a second step to hand rejuvenation, many patients are unaware that Radiesse® dermal filler can successfully restore the lost volume in the backs of the hands, diminishing the signs of aging.

How It Works

When placed beneath the skin, Radiesse injections immediately re-plump and replenish volume for a more supple and youthful appearance. The filler raises the skin level so that tendons, joints and veins lose their prominence.

Radiesse consists of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which are proven to stimulate the natural production of collagen. The CaHA interwoven with the body’s own collagen creates naturally soft and smooth skin. Radiesse acts like a scaffold under the skin, stimulating and providing a structure to allow natural collagen to grow. Radiesse has been best known over the years as a facial contouring filler for areas such as the chin and cheek. It provides instant and long-lasting results, maintaining a natural feel as it takes on the characteristics of the surrounding skin tissue.

Filler treatments for the hands are no different than for the face: Treatment is quick, and temporary side effects may include swelling, and/or tenderness at the injection site. Bruising and discomfort during treatment is limited. Results typically last one to two years.

If you’re interested in hand rejuvenation, consult one of our dermatologists. In the meantime don’t forget that sunscreen is your best anti-aging protection.
